“Okay, but why?”
Whenever researchers study why people quit jobs, bad bosses are high on the list. So why is it that most leadership training or coaching sucks? I’m sure you’d agree! I know first-hand, because I’ve been through many internal and external trainings, read dozens of management books, and listened to hundreds of podcast episodes. I didn’t even plan to become a leader. 🤯
How is it possible, that most of the best management resources I’ve learned from and keep recommending are free or absolutely affordable? Unlike so many courses, coaching, and trainings costing you or your company thousands?
The answer is, as per usual, money. 🤑
The corporate training market size in 2023 was valued at $361.5 billion. Leadership Development makes up a significant chunk of that, I can promise you that. In summary, these “corporate training” or “leadership development” companies make a lot of money. They use their deep pockets to make sure leaders around the globe buy into the belief that a free article on the internet or a $20 book could never help them as much as that juicy $1500 “certified leadership course” or a $6000 “tailored executive coaching program”.
I know you can learn, grow, and excel with free resources alone, so that’s why I’m creating this site.
“Why don’t you create more original content?”
In my career I benefited a lot from all the amazing free or cheap resources out there. At first I tried writing original content on my Substack newsletter. However, I quickly learned that my true superpower isn’t that. I actually learned I hate writing original long-form content every week. Luckily, I also figured out what gives me energy and what I’m better at.
Over the years I’ve reviewed a sizeable number of resources. I use my browser bookmarks as a “this was a resource worth remembering” after I consume it, not as a “check out later if I have time” list. Unfortunately most of the structure and resources don’t make sense out of context. So with this site I’m trying to leverage everything I know and put it into a format that is accessible and useful to a wider audience.
As I’ve started this project on my own, I also figured my vision is much more achievable if I focus on curation and not creation of original content. So this site is my original content in a way, and I sincerely hope it helps new and experienced leaders around the world!
